1. How to use these hints

Welcome to the hints page for the first puzzle of the Puzzle Backpack! Here, you will find information to help you on your way through this puzzle and open the orange 3-digit combination lock.

Each hint reveals more information about the puzzle. To move on to the next hint, tap the next button.

2. Puzzle Location Hint

HINT 1: How to find the table

You can recognize the Mesa Bronze picnic table because it is made of metal, has sculptures in the middle, and has words and shapes carved into its surfaces.

3. Strategy Hint

What letters are missing from each of the animal names? You can match the sheets of paper up with the carvings on the table to find out. 

4. Another Strategy Hint

The missing letters spell out your answer, but first you need to put them in the right order. Look closely at what is written before each animal’s name on the table for a clue. 

5. Full Strategy Explanation

Use the dates before each animal’s name to put the missing letters in order. When you put them in order from the oldest date to the most recent, you should end up with letters that spell out three numbers.

6. Lock Combination (Answer)

Split up the letters TWOFOURONE to spell 3 numbers TWO - FOUR - ONE. Lock A’s combination is 2-4-1.
